Built in 1890, the shrine and the adjacent former convent were placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. Located on the second floor of the former convent building, is the Heritage Museum. The 1,400 sq. ft. museum is designed to interpret the early settlements of southern Auglaize and Mercer Counties in Ohio. Settleres of this area were largely of German decent and of the Roman Catholic faith. The displays in the museum reflect their way of life in the mid to late nineteenth century. Special attention has been devoted to the history of the Sisters of the Precious Blood and their contribution to the cultural development of these early pioneers.. Also make sure to stop by the Pilgrim Gift Shop and enjoy the country setting, including a lovley patio, statue garden, and pathways for relaxed strolling.
