From the End of the Vietnam War to the Beginning of Watergate Presentation

May 2, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

The Auglaize County Historical Society, in conjunction with First on the Moon, Inc., will present “1972 in Domestic Politics and Foreign Relations: From the End of the Vietnam War to the Beginning of Watergate” on Monday, May 2, 7 pm, at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Wapakoneta, catercornered from the Auglaize County Courthouse. The event is free and open to the public; attendees should use the W. Mechanic Street entrance to the church. The Historical Society and First on the Moon are presenting the 1972 program in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Armstrong Museum.

Dr. Benjamin Patrick Greene is Associate Professor of History at Bowling Green State University, where he teaches courses in 20th Century America and U.S. foreign relations.  He is the author of Eisenhower, Science Advice, and the Nuclear Test-Ban Debate, 1945-1963 and numerous articles and book reviews on a range of topics related to America’s interactions with the world. His current research project examines the cultural Cold War, analyzing how events such as the Giantstep-Apollo 11 Presidential Goodwill Tour around the world influenced international attitudes about the United States, its citizens, and its policies.  A retired Army officer, he has previously taught history at the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York and the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland.

States Historical Society administrator Rachel Barber, “Dr. Greene is a highly-regarded historian, whose expertise in 20th century history makes him an ideal presenter during this anniversary year. We hope that many folks will join us for what promises to be a fascinating program, as Dr. Greene places the museum in context of what was going on around the world in 1972.”
